Elder/Deacon Nomination

It’s Spring and one of the things we do at Saint Andrews each Spring is select new leaders – both Deacons and Elders – to replace those who have completed their term.  We need your help.  Here’s how the process works:

  1) The congregation recommends other members whom they feel are qualified to fill the position of either Deacon or Elder.

2) The Nominating Committee reviews the recommendations and asks those  members the committee feels are strong candidates for leadership positions in the church.

3) Members who accept the calling and who are approved by Session are then elected by the congregation to serve as Elders and Deacons

Spring For A Cure

There will be a fundraiser benefiting the Komen Pittsburgh Race For The Cure and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at 1 p.m. at The Atrium.  Come enjoy lunch, a Chinese Auction, 50/50 Raffle and more!  Shelley Duffy will be our emcee.  Tickets are $20.  Please call Amy Monteleone for tickets or more information at (724) 282-2551.  Check out our web site www.springforacure.net

Adult Bible Study in Preparation for Pentecost

                    Explore the Book of Acts

Beginning April 6, adults will have the opportunity to explore the Book of Acts in preparation for Pentecost.  Those attending will be encouraged to read one chapter of Acts each day during the month of April.  Using a map and the Bible, we will trace Paul’s journeys and the growth of the Christian Church.  Discussions will be led by Becky Thomas.

Everyone is welcome!  We will meet in the Memorial Room beginning at 9:10 a.m.

                    You Are Invited To

                A Library Book Shower

A Children’s Book Shower for our church library will be held on Sunday, April 27th after worship in the Memorial Room.

Please join us for games, refreshments and lots of fun.  Bring a new or gently used book or books (all age levels) to help improve the children’s section of our library.

Look in the bulletin for suggested children’s authors and book titles.  See you there!

Katie’s Garden

Katie’s Garden, located at Trinity Lutheran Church, near the Clearview Mall, is tended by volunteers who are concerned about hunger in the Butler area.  Our goal is to provide nutritious vegetables and fruit to those in need by  growing it in our community garden.  At the same time, we hope to explore and promote long-term solutions to the problems of hunger in our community.

Katie’s Garden is in need of committed volunteers to help care for the garden by adopting a plot, delivering produce to the food pantry, or preparing produce for storage.  We would greatly appreciate any garden help you might be able to provide.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please call Lara at 724-282-8222 or call Trinity’s office at 724-287-1977.

Mission Trip Planned

The Hill United Presbyterian Church is sponsoring an Adult Mission Trip to Diamond Head on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi June 28th through July 6th.  The trip is being coordinated through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.  The Gulf Coast is still in need of help as people work to recover from the destruction caused by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005.  Whether you have special skills, or can simply cook, pick-up trash, use a broom or paint brush, your time and effort will be appreciated.  Participants should be at least one year out of high school.

We estimate the cost per person will be $400 - $500.  We ask that each participant contribute at least $200.  This will cover the fee for supplies and the cost of food for the trip.  Those who can afford to contribute more will be helping to fund the cost of transportation.

This is a wonderful opportunity both to minister to the people of Mississippi and to enjoy the fellowship of other Christian adults.  If you are interested in participating or would like to support the effort through a donation of time or money, please contact John Richards @ 724-355-7418 or Rev. John Porter @ 724-287-5427.  We look forward to sharing this opportunity and sharing the experience with you upon our return

Helpers Needed

One of the ministries of the Deacons is to prepare and serve funeral dinners.  Providing an opportunity for friends and loved ones to have a meal together after a funeral can be very important.  It gives those who are grieving time and space to gather, share memories and stories, and express their love and support.  While such dinners do not occur frequently, they are scheduled quickly and extra hands are often needed.

If you can help, please contact the church office at (724) 287-4777 or see Carol Israel or Dawn Grossman.  Volunteers are needed to 1) make a dish (a salad or casserole or dessert) or 2) help serve the meal.  Help is especially needed during the week.  Thank you!

Plastic Containers Needed

Do you have empty margarine tubs or cottage cheese containers taking up space in your cupboards? Don’t throw them out! Drop them off in the church kitchen on the table under the Cliff Street windows. We need plastic grocery bags and plastic containers with lids for our Community Dinner Program.  Thank you!!
